I forgot to add in a swim on tuesday - about an hour, around 2000 yd.

1/24/09 - A quick summary

With so many mile to run, there's not a lot of time to blog! Here's a quick wrap up of my runs this week:

Tuesday: Foothills Trail+
Distance = 5.4
Time = 0:59:00
pace = 10:55 min/mile

Thursday: Foothills Trail
Distance = 3.4
Time = 37:18
Pace = 10:58 min/mile

Friday: Treadmill
Distance = 3.0

I have a 7 miler on tap for today - I'm just waiting for a banana to digest.

1/20/09

Time: 41:41
Distance: 3.65
pace: 11:25 min/mile

consistent running is beginning to wear on my body. I have to make a concerted effort to stretch properly and eat good, wholesome foods to make it through. Next week is a recovery week though!

week-end

total miles = 23.01
total time: about 4 hours, 24 minutes

Total to date: 38.24 miles
total time: about 7 hours, 24 minutes

1/18/09

temp = 60 F
clothes = shorts and t-shirt!
distance: 5.37
time = 1:07:41
pace = 12:36 min/mile

Holy ridiculous wind, batman! In colorado, our very warm winter days are almost always accompanied with high winds, and I managed to go out for my run during the worst of them! Winds were 30 mph stead, with gusts to 45. I didn't think it would affect me that much, but when I had the full headwind, I couldn't even keep a running pace - I had to walk. I had the headwind on the way back, and I hasn't figured out why running was so hard - maybe i didn't have a good breakfast, maybe weights on thursday tired me out, etc. In the last 7 minutes, I turned 90 degrees and had a crosswind, and all my stength came back! it was DEFINITELY the wind that slowed me down. Still, I'm glad I got out and did the miles.

1/17/09

temp = 59 F (!)
clothes = tights, short sleeve shirt
- I got a twinge hot, tomorrow I'm wearing shorts! yay! -
distance = 3.0
time = 34:58
pace = 11:39 min/mile

This run was intentionally short and slow to provide some active recovery from yesterday's fast run, and tomorrow's longer run. It was a wonderful warm and non-windy day in colorado, and I really enjoyed seeing so many people out on the trail.

Also, my (boring) blog has a follower! please introduce yourself, random man!

Time: 34:36
Distance: 3.37
Pace: 10:16 min/mile

The run felt GREAT! I think playing with the speed on the treadmill helped my legs feel what it felt like to go fast, and told my brain that I didn't have to run as slow as I had been going. I did this run on the foothills trail, which has some hills, and I felt really strong going up each one, and wasn't tempted to walk at all. I've never been a consistent runner, but now I'm really beginning to believe that 6 30 minute runs are much better than 2 1.5 hour runs.

Time: 36:00
Distance: 3.27
Pace: 11:00 min/mile

More treadmill. Looking forward to getting on the trail this weekend. I think I'm going to start some speedwork soon, I'm getting the itch to go fassttttt.

1/13/09

Treadmill again - wore tank top and felt more comfortable

Distance = 4.00
Time = 0:45:00
pace: 11:15 min/mile

Another treadmill run, although this one had a little LCD screen so I could watch Alton Brown for my 45 minutes. Is it bad that I watch shows about cookies while exercising? haha. anyway, I was happy that I had NO stomach pain or ab pain this run! It seems like every run so far I've had a little stomach twinge or cramp - nothing big, but a bit irritating. This one felt really good. I'm finally beginning to feel like I'm getting my fitness back!

1/12/09

distance = 4 miles
time = 0:46:50
pace = 11:42 min/mile

I woke up and there was two inches of snow on the ground! Exciting, but meant that I wasn't going to deal with running outside today. I forgot how boring the treadmill can be! But I made it through,and had a great run. I was definitely aerobically comfortable the whole time, but my legs were a little slow the first five minutes, presumably because I had been out in the cold. I also got a little hot, but that's not suprising. Anyway, I'm aiming for 6 runs with a total time of 3 hour 45 minutes this week, and I think this evening was a good start!

week-end

total miles = 15.23
total time: about 180 minutes

feeling good.

1/11/09

Temp = 35 F
clothes = tights, under armor, cotton shirt
- this was perfect, i learned my lesson yesterday! -
time = 0:38:58
distance = 3.37
pace = 11:27 min/mile

This felt better than yesterday, and I was much more properly dressed. I did the hills better, porbably because I ate before running today, and ran on an empty stomach yesterday. I had a stomach cramp at the end, but I ran through it and it felt almost fine by the end.

Saturday, January 10, 2009

1/10/09

Temp = 35 F
clothes = hat, gloves, tights, fleece pants, under armour, extra shirt, and sweatshirt
- WAY too much -
distance = 3.37
time = 0:38:27
pace = 11:24 min/mile

It was an absolutely great day to run today. Picturesque sky, no wind, cold but not crazy cold. I did end up ridiculously overdressing (when I ooked at the weather it was 27 out, but it heated up quick), and ended up taking off my fleece pants, hat, gloves, and sweatshirt. I stayed pretty comfortable except on the hills, and felt pretty strong!

Thursday, January 8, 2009

1/9/09

Temp = 60 F (!)
clothes - tights and tshirt
weight - 112.6 (!)
distance - 3.37 m
time: 0:40:30
pace: 12:01 min/mile

It was a wonderful day to run today! The winds from yesterday subsided, but the warm temps stayed. I could have even run in shorts. I ran the foothills trail up to the parking lot, which is further than Joe said I should be going this week, but only by 10 minutes, and it was just so warm I was to get a little extra time in. The run felt a little hard, probably because it has some hills.

1/7/08

Off - apparently the gym closes at 8, not 10. oops.

Tuesday, January 6, 2009

1/6/09

Temp = 37 F
clothes = tights, under armour, csu hoodie
- felt fairly comfortable, legs were a twinge cold -
weight = 115.2
time = 33:15
distance = 2.77 (i think)
pace = 12:00 min/mile

I had plenty of time to run today, since my very confused body decided that 6 AM was a good time to wake up, so I got to work at 7:30. I kept this run as easy as possible, but picked it up a little. this run was on the foothills trail and had some more hills than yesterday. It's hard not to go further and faster, but this is supposed to be a transition week and i'm sticking to that. I ate a couple crackers right before the run and consequently felt a little constant cramp in my stomach. I think I need to eat more at lunch so I don't have to eat when I get home from work.

Tomorrow will be a bit of a challenge because I can't go to work early because I teach on Wednesdays. Apparently the rec center is open, so I might do a treadmill run after dark, and a circuit or two of weights.

1/5/09 - Starting up

This will be short because I want to get to work soon. Anyway, I started a running blog to keep me accountable and to log my workouts. My goal right now is to run the colorado half marathon in fort collins in may. I'm comming off of three months of no running, so I'm trying to ease back into it. I'm lucky to have the best coach in the world, joe (my fiance), who ran ironman hawaii, so he obviously knows what he's talking about. This week, Joe assigned me 6 runs of 30 minutes each to get used to scheduling runs into my day (never my strong suit). The runs are supposed to be painfully easy. I'm happy for that!

So today - 1/5/09 (which is really yesterday)
Temp = 30 F
clothes = hat, gloves, tights, fleece pants, under armour, green tech shirt
- I felt cold on my upper body, need to wear another shirt -
weight = 115.8
time = 0:30:39
distance = 2.35 miles
pace = 13:02 min/mile

This run felt ridiculously easy, which is what I was trying to accomplish. The pace is about 2 min/mile slower than what I normally run, so I'm not suprised it felt so easy (and good!). the point of very slow running is to ease my body back into the vibe of working out and to make it enjoyable. Pace this week does not matter at all. So I feel like today was an accomplished day.
